Known as the “Ghost Ship of the Arctic,” the 1,300-ton steamship Baychimo disappeared into the sea ice off Alaska in 1931. After numerous sightings, the Baychimo was reportedly last seen in 1969.
Fortunately, captain and crew were safe as camp has been made ashore and practically all valuable cargo lightered off in preparation for overwintering in the Arctic.
